Muscle Stimulation

Muscle Stimulation

Sometimes it happens that you push your body a little too far and wind up with muscle pain. The pain has various causes, but they all come down to one thing: aches, soreness, and an inability to use your body comfortably. At BodyWorks Chiropractic in Euless, TX, our chiropractor can help you get relief from the pain and tension of a muscle injury through chiropractic techniques such as muscle stimulation.

.

Muscle Pain Can Become Chronic

The body doesn't always do the best job of healing itself after an injury. Muscles can have a more difficult time healing due to the repetitive motions they're subjected to on a regular basis. When a muscle is injured but has to perform a certain movement repeatedly, it may not heal properly or at all. Giving your muscle a rest or taking time off may not be sufficient for full healing. That's when natural healing techniques such as muscle stimulation can help.

What is Muscle Stimulation?

Muscle stimulation is the act of stimulating the muscle to promote its natural ability to heal itself. One therapy is known as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) which uses short bursts and pulses of electricity to get a muscle to contract. Acupuncture is another therapy that works similarly to a TENS device, but uses fine needles to stimulate the body into healing itself. Last, but not least, massage therapy can also be used to release muscle knots and trigger points that are holding back the body from healing fully.

Muscle Stimulation Promotes Healing

When a muscle is torn or strained, it may not receive enough oxygen and nutrients to get it to heal completely, or the muscle heals, but is easily reinjured. Muscle stimulation, acupuncture, and massage therapy are different therapeutic modalities that focus on improving blood flow to the injured muscle and relieving the tension from nearby muscles that are compensating for the area of injury.

Each injury calls for a different therapeutic approach, and our chiropractor can help you understand why one therapy works better than another. The overall goal is to get the body to supply more of what it needs to an area of injury, and it may be that acupuncture works better than massage therapy for a given injury.
